About DT Practice

DT Practice is a powerful accounting practice management software. It is a comprehensive system, designed to meet the needs of today's professionals. As well, it is a proven product that doesn't only offer standard time and billing, it helps you operate your entire practice at peak productivity with real-time access to essential firm, staff, and client information.

Requirements

To use DT Practice, you must have it installed with an up-to-date licence.

Settings

To activate the integration with DT Practice and configure the behaviour, please review the settings which can be found under Preferences > DT Practice in the menu.

Note: You must also turn on integration in DT Practice. Select Firm from the Setup menu, click the Preferences tab, and check the box next to "Integrate this Firm with other solutions". Bear in mind that if you have more than one DT Practice database, you can only enable one of them.

Getting your DT Max clients into DT Practice

In general, you use the client list printing feature to send selected clients to DT Practice. See the Printing or exporting client list data knowledge base page for more information.

You can export either a single client or multiple clients, but keep in mind that the information for any given client can only be exported once. Consequently, make sure that you have all of the relevant data entered in DT Max before performing the export.

Note: This feature is only available in 2016 and later tax years. Also, data will only be available for clients who are active in the current year, or any of the previous four years.

Best Practices

1. Initial population of clients in DT Practice

Case 1A - Assigning your own DT Practice client IDs

These steps will let you gradually assign the DT Practice clients IDs of your choosing. Once you have completed this, you can perform the export (alternatively, you can choose to send just a few clients at a time as you complete them, and repeat the whole process).

Selecting the clients

  1. In the client list, select (mark) all of the clients that you wish to send to DT Practice.
  2. Right-click and select "Add marked clients to DT Practice client list".
(This will add the selected clients to DT Practice client table.)

Assigning the DT Practice client IDs

  1. From the Preferences menu, select DT Practice.
  2. Click on the link "View/edit the DT Practice client table".
  3. Select a client in the list, and click the Edit button.
  4. Enter the DT Practice client ID that you wish to assign.
  5. Repeat this process for the remaining clients.
(You don't have to do all clients at the same time. You can update them whenever you have time.)
  6. Click the Save button.
  7. Important: Make sure that in the Options section, you have selected "Do not export clients without a DT Practice ID".
  8. Close the window (click Save if you made changes).

  2. In the section "Select client", choose "All clients on database".
  3. In the section "Destination", choose "Export to DT Practice".
